ENERGY STAR Windows

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has confirmed the next ENERGY STAR windows, doors and skylights criteria for Canada. This specification will come into effect on January 1, 2020.

  • Key changes are as follows
  • The current 3 climate zone system will be eliminated and a common ENERGY STAR criteria will be applied to all regions of Canada.
  • The two compliance paths (U-factor and Energy Rating) will be retained. However, the minimum Energy Rating (ER) on the U-factor path of compliance will be eliminated, and the proposed U-factor maximum on the ER path of compliance will not be part of the v.5 specification.

Version 5.0 Technical Specification:

Windows and Doors: Maximum U-factor of 1.22 W/m2∙K (0.21 Btu/h∙ft2◦F) OR Minimum ER 34

Skylights: Maximum U-factor of 2.29 W/m2∙K (0.40 Btu/h∙ft2◦F)
